Cyber Madness Winners

On Friday, October 28, five students, Wesley Nickelson, Jade Uhlich, Jordan Meckle, Jacob Klimpel, and Mason Schuh, participated in the first North Dakota Cyber Madness competition.

What is Cyber Madness?  Cyber Madness is a competition about all things cyber related along with cryptography.  Students had to complete questions about different cyber security, cyber society, rules, and much more.  They also had to use websites to find missing information and decrypt codes. Some were not easy at all!

There were 38 teams across the state that participated.  Two teams competed:  Drake Anamoose Cyber Madness 1-Lightening and Drake Anamoose Cyber Madness 2-Thunder.  Team 1 took 8th place overall and Team 2 took 14th place overall.  Because one team was in the top ten, they will receive a micro: bit starter set and a classroom pack of ten for the coach to use in the classroom!  All participants win a t-shirt!

The state was divided into the East and West sides.  We were part of the East side.  Our two teams took 4th and 5th on the East side. As the 4th & 5th place team on the East side, we will compete in Grand Forks on November 18 in the finalist round.  The top five from the East will complete against the top five from the west! At finals, the students are competing for a chance to win scholarships.  The first-place team will win $500 each, second place wins $300 each and third place wins $100. These scholarships are for post-secondary education.  They will also receive a trophy for their school and medals for each member of the team.  Congratulations and Good Luck!!
